exhibition was very impressive, comprising more than a hundred paintings and drawings.
Even though Velickovic’s paintings reveal the tragedy of human suffering and death, students were impressed by the grandiose nature of his work.

]]> Year 3 got the wonderful opportunity to visit the Stone Age site of Vinca. As we have been learning about the Stone Age in both history and English, it was great to see some practical examples of the different things we have been studying.

The students were able to see how people lived in Belgrade thousands of years ago and saw how people’s lives differed to our own.

We were also fortunate to have a local archaeologist show us some of the amazing artefacts they had found, and he explained how these ancient items had been used to decode the past.

]]> With the aim to raise awareness of animal cruelty, as well as to deliver the abundant dog food donation BIS had raised, Student Council Volunteer Club organized a visit to the ‘Veterina Beograd’ Dog Shelter in Rakovica.

The students had the opportunity to see the one thousand dogs living within the shelter, as well as speak to the veterinarians, who were more than willing to answer the students eager questions.

It was an eye opening trip as it brought my attention to the devastating reality of the mistreatment of dogs. I’m glad that places like Veterina Beograd exist as they are working hard to fight these problems. – Milica Yr13

I am very proud of the students for bringing lots of dog food to support this cause. Many of us are aware of the issues regarding stray dogs but experiencing it for yourself and seeing it in person is quite impactful. It made me understand the issue in further depths. – Christian Yr13

]]> As part of their study of the History of Flight the students from Year 3 made their long awaited visit to this special museum. The museum, a huge glass dome, has a huge variety of machines which we’d only seen so far in books and on the computer. We saw early bi-planes with bicycle wheels, gliders, warplanes, helicopters, jets and even an early simulator!

The oldest machine we saw was 100 years old this year. It was a wooden propeller machine with a basket seat for the pilot! The newest was an Eagle jet.

As a final treat, Dan let the children sit in the cockpit of one of the airplanes and move the joystick and rudders.

The trip was altogether interesting with something for everyone to enjoy.
