Some days are just better than others! ? Our amazing student council organized an epic Halloween party that was filled with fun and excitement.

The entire venue was transformed into a spooky wonderland, complete with cobwebs, pumpkins, and eerie lighting. ?? It truly felt like we had entered another world!

One of the highlights of the night was the room to escape. ? We were challenged to solve mind-boggling riddles and puzzles to unlock the door and escape within a certain time limit. Talk about an adrenaline rush! ? It was incredible to see everyone’s problem-solving skills in action.

But wait, there’s more! Our student council had also organized a thrilling treasure hunt. ?

And, of course, let’s not forget the costumes contest? ? It was a parade of creativity and imagination, with everyone dressed up in their spookiest and most impressive costumes. From wicked witches to terrifying zombies, we had it all! ?? Each outfit was a masterpiece, making it incredibly difficult for the judges to pick the winners.

All in all, it was a night to remember. ? Our student council truly went above and beyond to make this Halloween party unforgettable. A huge shoutout to each and every member who put their heart and soul into planning and executing this event.

December 11th saw the entire Secondary school and a good number of parents, descend upon Cukarica Culture Centre for the Secondary Christmas show. This year our soloists, choir and language groups were joined by Key Stage 3 students with their Ridiculous Reality Cabaret.

Combining well-known songs, sketches, dances, physical theatre, rewritten popular tunes and an epic original composition by the one and only Milos, the cabaret took us through some of the more ridiculous experiences children encounter in their school day.

We then enjoyed a range of songs in no less than five different languages, some amazing solo musical performances, recitals in Serbian and show-stopping classics by Petra and Perina. We can’t wait for next Christmas to come around so that we can get some more!

Regards,

Paul Wade, Deputy Principal

This year our annual school trip took us to the Italian island, Sicily, from 16 – 22 November. The group was made up of students from KS3, KS4 and KS5, Years 7-13.

On the first day, we visited Monreale, a town where the famous Duomo Cathedral was built in the twelfth century. We were in awe of the beautiful medieval mosaics inside the Cathedral.  Next, we walked through the main street of Palermo, looking at the monuments, the Theatro Massimo and the Fontana Pretoria.

The following day we travelled to Corleone, the place considered to be the original home of the Mafia. There we went to a museum and learnt about the horrible ways of the Mafia. We all felt sorry for the people who lived there. Afterwards, we visited Villa Del Kasale, an ancient Roman villa, the floors of which are covered in frescoes.

Our next destination was Mount Etna where we climbed into the crater and enjoyed the snow, as well as a view of the sea. Then we were taken to Taormina, to a Greek amphitheatre which also had a panoramic view.

We went to Catania the next day, saw the Cathedral of St Agatha and walked through Elephant Square…and we had some free time to go shopping.

In Syracuse on our last day, we saw Roman aqueducts and realised how ahead of their time the Romans were in their engineering skills. We also learnt what war was like in the olden times and about the sieges of Syracuse. The tour ended with a visit to another amphitheatre carved out of a giant rock.

This year, students from Years 7-10 performed a comic play containing many skits and a rousing finale song.  Set on an island, where students were marooned and awaiting rescue following a boat accident, the story revealed a murder, a student desiring recognition for solving it and a series of unrelated comic sketches, performed by students to entertain themselves whilst awaiting rescue.

The sketches enabled our enthusiastic performers to explore different genres of comedy and performance style, with penguins, marathon runners, tribal Indians, school inspectors and a host of other characters coming to life within the play, to the delight of the audience.

Both performers and audience had a great time and once again, the Secondary Drama students demonstrated their talent, enthusiasm and versatility in performance.

The Student Council with the assistance of the Parent-Teacher Friends association (PTF) is proud to have hosted the Halloween Party for the whole of the BIS school community. The party was wonderful with creative decorations and costumes, tasty food including impressively scary cupcakes and weird drinks, plus a variety of fun games.

Prizes were given to the three most scary costumes. For that evening, the school was turned into a dungeon which everyone present wanted to explore. Both Primary and Secondary students, as well as their parents, had great fun.

Thanks to everyone who helped in organising the event, as well as to everyone who came and took part in the festivity!

This year the Secondary Drama Club students pulled out all the stops to prove that Christmas really isn’t Christmas without a good, old-fashioned Santa. Their comic production ‘Catch me if you Can’ featured Fax Modem and his team of inept international agents plotting to eliminate Santa and replace him with a more high-tech version – a plan eventually foiled by his loyal elves, who killed them all off. With appearances from Superman, Red Riding Hood, her grandmother, the wolf, rap dancers, talking trees and a very scary narrator, this ‘off-piste’ seasonal offering showcased a variety of student talent in acting, singing, dancing and the odd karate chop! Our performers really gave it their all and were well rewarded by the enthusiastic response of the audience.

With Scenery, props, costumes, programmes and posters provided by supporting Art students and the music, sound and technical support provided by Music students, the show was a truly collaborative effort and thanks, of course, are due to the Art, Music and I.T. teachers whose fantastic mentoring and personal help brought this all to fruition.
