We are proud to announce that the ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ in Belgrade has officially been accredited as a British School Overseas (BSO) – one of the highest recognitions granted by the UK government to international schools following the British curriculum.

In May 2025, a team from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) confirmed that BIS meets all BSO standards, placing us among schools that deliver education on par with top independent schools in the United Kingdom.

This accreditation is a testament to the dedication of our entire team, our commitment to educational excellence, and the care we provide to every student.

Rooted locally, recognised globally – BIS continues to build bridges through knowledge.

Music and the performing arts are an important part of a child’s education and are highly valued at the ÌÇÐÄÔ´´. This area of learning develops not only singing and performance skills but also improves communication, literacy and childrens’ self-esteem.
Many weeks of rehearsing led to a wonderful performance of Annie on Monday 5th June at the Vlada Divljan theatre where the children wowed their audience with their singing, dancing and acting.
Many thanks to all the children and staff for their hard work in preparing for this very memorable event.

On Sunday, 12 June, the BIS celebrated its 25th Anniversary at the White Palace in Belgrade. On this special occasion, the Guest of Honour was HRH Prince Alexander Karadjordjevic. All the guests including members of Corps Diplomatique and foreign business representatives, families of the students and friends of BIS enjoyed the musical performances by Sophia S, Pavel M and Ziva W. as well as valedictory speeches by student and parent representatives.

The peek of the evening was the Graduation Ceremony where the Graduating Class of 2022 received their BIS High School Diplomas. Special awards from the Council of ÌÇÐÄÔ´´s (COBIS), European Council of International Schools (ECIS), as well as the internal Jonathan Rider Award for Academic Excellence were presented to several Secondary and Primary students.

The evening was crowned by a cocktail party at the White Palace garden. Everyone had an enjoyable time, and a number of parents were proud of the accomplishments of their sons and daughters during their time at BIS.

Recently eight of our students, in two groups, successfully completed their practice expedition around Kosmaj mountain, 50 km south of Belgrade, supervised by Mr Stevanovic and Mr Howie.

The Duke of Edinburgh International Award requires students to complete 6 hours of purposeful activity on each of two days. In addition, the students had to set up their tents and prepare their own food for one night. This is one of the four sections of this award, but for many students the most exciting section.

One group had an expedition topic to look at the demise of Kosmaj tourism, and the other the religious buildings in the area and their significance for the area.

Having planned their hikes around the mountain in order to get to/from appropriate locations they set off on Saturday morning, maps in hand. They successfully navigated around some lovely scenery on the mountainside for many hours in lovely weather and both groups arrived, late afternoon, at their camping area. There they had to set up their tents and cook their own food over a fire. Being tired they decided that a party was out of the question and they were asleep far earlier than normal! The next morning (having been awoken at 6 am) they had to take down the tents and clear the site. Following this they had a second day of hiking and exploring the local area, using their map reading skills to navigate around.

Come Sunday afternoon both groups arrived at their final checkpoint, tired but very happy. They, and we, are proud of their achievement – well done to all involved.

On Saturday 18th May the ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ organised its traditional Charity Bazaar at the BIS Primary campuses in 7a Uzicka and 3a Iliciceva in Dedinje. The theme of this year’s charity bazaar was ‘Circus’.  Like in the previous years, dozens of stalls were presented at the Bazaar. We express our most sincere thanks to all of those who made contributions to our Spring Charity Bazaar by donating food and items for raffle, running a stall or by merely attending the event.

The visitors enjoyed international cuisines from every continent, an exciting entertainment programme, souvenirs, books, fun children’s games and other curiosities. The most exciting part of the event was the raffle with numerous valuable prizes including weekends at exclusive hotels, dinners in renowned restaurants and many other surprises.

I am proud to announce that this Bazaar was probably the best one that the school has so far organised: the proceeds collected towards the NURDOR (National Association of Parents of Children with Cancer) were in the amount of 248,780 Dinars. I hope that you all enjoyed yourselves on Saturday in the nice sunny weather and pleasant atmosphere. It is also my hope that in each year to come our Charity Bazaars will be bigger and better and that, as a school, we will be able to make an even greater contribution to those in need.

This years BIS Halloween Party was a huge success. A lot of time and effort was put into creating the Haunted House and organizing the game parlor, but in the end, the event exceeded our expectations. The food and spooky drinks were provided by the Student Council and the Parent-Teacher Friends Association. At the end of the party a jury composed of the Principal and two teachers voted for the three most successful costumes.

The third place was taken by Marija whose costume was of a bloody nurse. The second place was taken by Milos who came to the party in a glamorous costume as a sultan of the Ottoman Empire. Finally, first came Val wearing an unusually imaginative costume of a spider.

Everyone had great fun, and our thanks go to all the students, teachers and parents who put a great effort into organising this successful event.

On Friday 2nd November, the students and staff all dressed up in their scariest costumes to enjoy the annual BIS Primary Halloween party. It was with much excitement that the students (many with scary painted faces) entered the specially decorated library in anticipation of the best Halloween Costume competition.

After the extremely excited winners from each class received their prizes, it was party time! The students and staff both thoroughly enjoyed the food provided and danced to the spooky music.

The party was once again a great success and we are already looking forward to our next party.

The location of the BIS secondary school trip this year was Madrid, Spain. The week was full of interesting art museums, cathedrals, a sport camp and an amusement park. On the 20th October, we arrived in Madrid and had a panoramic tour of the city visiting many attractions where we could stop to take photos.

During this week, we visited: the Royal Palace; Museo Reina Sofia and Museo del Prado, which are both art museums; El Escorial; the small towns Avila, Segovia and Toledo; the El Retiro park; Parque De Atracciones de Madrid and the Real Madrid Football Stadium.

Overall, the school trip was a fun and exciting journey where we learnt many things about Spain and its history, memories were created and new friendships were made.
