December 11th saw the entire Secondary school and a good number of parents, descend upon Cukarica Culture Centre for the Secondary Christmas show. This year our soloists, choir and language groups were joined by Key Stage 3 students with their Ridiculous Reality Cabaret.

Combining well-known songs, sketches, dances, physical theatre, rewritten popular tunes and an epic original composition by the one and only Milos, the cabaret took us through some of the more ridiculous experiences children encounter in their school day.

We then enjoyed a range of songs in no less than five different languages, some amazing solo musical performances, recitals in Serbian and show-stopping classics by Petra and Perina. We can’t wait for next Christmas to come around so that we can get some more!

Regards,

Paul Wade,ÌýDeputy Principal

After a lot of preparation and many weeks of hard work, on Thursday 5th December, the largest amount of Primary students in the history of BIS performed their annual production, ‘Mary Poppins.’ In our new venue the Vlada Divljan theatre, the audience was transported back in time to 1910 Edwardian London. Although nervous, the students were filled with excitement as the day of the production had finally come.

At 6 pm, it was time, the show started and what a show it was! This years’ performance was of an extremely high quality and included lovely singing, energetic dances and fantastic acting. The students and staff had all worked extremely hard to produce such a good production and it was enjoyed by all. Well done to everybody involved and thank you to the parents for their support.

This year, students from Years 7-10 performed a comic play containing many skits and a rousing finale song.Ìý Set on an island, where students were marooned and awaiting rescue following a boat accident, the story revealed a murder, a student desiring recognition for solving it and a series of unrelated comic sketches, performed by students to entertain themselves whilst awaiting rescue.

The sketches enabled our enthusiastic performers to explore different genres of comedy and performance style, with penguins, marathon runners, tribal Indians, school inspectors and a host of other characters coming to life within the play, to the delight of the audience.

Both performers and audience had a great time and once again, the Secondary Drama students demonstrated their talent, enthusiasm and versatility in performance.

This year, the primary students have once again put on another fantastic performance with the musical extravaganza ‘Oliver!’

The students worked extremely hard, practicing their singing, dancing and acting skills. It was fantastic to see that all their hard work paid off as the students performed like true professionals. The dances were full of energy and enthusiasm, the singing was amazing, with some very brave solos and the acting was incredibly professional. Many people commented on the authentic London accents.

The audience seemed to thoroughly enjoy being transported back to Victorian England and many reported how impressed they were with the students’ performance saying it was one of the best BIS productions that they have seen. We are all extremely proud of the students and would like to thank them all for their maturity, exemplary behaviour and dedication.

This year the Secondary Drama Club students pulled out all the stops to prove that Christmas really isn’t Christmas without a good, old-fashioned Santa. Their comic production ‘Catch me if you Can’ featured Fax Modem and his team of inept international agents plotting to eliminate Santa and replace him with a more high-tech version – a plan eventually foiled by his loyal elves, who killed them all off. With appearances from Superman, Red Riding Hood, her grandmother, the wolf, rap dancers, talking trees and a very scary narrator, this ‘off-piste’ seasonal offering showcased a variety of student talent in acting, singing, dancing and the odd karate chop! Our performers really gave it their all and were well rewarded by the enthusiastic response of the audience.

With Scenery, props, costumes, programmes and posters provided by supporting Art students and the music, sound and technical support provided by Music students, the show was a truly collaborative effort and thanks, of course, are due to the Art, Music and I.T. teachers whose fantastic mentoring and personal help brought this all to fruition.

On December 9thÌý2015 the British Primary School held their annual Christmas production. This year’s performance was an adaptation of ‘The Lion King’, the Broadway musical. It is Broadway’sÌýÌýin history and the highest grossing Broadway production of all time.ÌýHowever, the B.I.S Primary School version was showing for one night only.

The Lion KingÌýis aÌýÌýbased on the 1994ÌýÌýÌýwith music byÌýÌýand lyrics byÌý. The BIS version featured songs by Jazmine Sullivan, Charlie Smalls, Katy Perry and Pharell Williams.

The production took place in Theatre 78. The 380 seat venue was completely filled to capacity with parents who eagerly awaited the lifting of the opening curtain.Ìý A table of international food was enjoyed by all our guests while waiting for the show to start.

The students backstage were very nervous in the moments leading up to the start of the show.Ìý Ingrid Pantelic (Year 6) almost fainted with excitement just seconds before the production was due to start and had to be revived by Miss Maric.

The Year 6 dance got the show off to a spectacular start and the rendition of the ‘Circle of Life’ theme featured in the programme reminded the audience of an authentic South African choir.

All of the children in the Primary School appeared on stage at least twice wearing superbly designed costumes, many of which were created by Mrs Lungalov. Their roles required them to act, sing or dance in front of the amazing 35m² backdrop which featured a giant elephant and life size giraffe.

Our students worked very hard over a six weeks period of rehearsals to memorize a 36 page script which included 10 songs and 6 dances.

On the night of the show all the hours of time spent remembering our lines were worthwhile because the BIS Primary School children put on an exceptional performance.

Some students in Year 6 mentioned it was an amazing feeling to be on stage and one that they would never forget.

At the end of the show all the children in the Primary School and the teachers entered the stage to dance to the song ‘In the Jungle’. When the song had finished, the cast and all the teachers were given a standing ovation, especially our youngest students who were dressed up as zebras, parrots and monkeys.

Many thanks to all the teachers, parents and pupils who dedicated their time to help make Ìýthis year’s show a phenomenal success.

What will be the theme of the production next year? You will have to wait and see if we can equal the quality of this amazing 2015 production.
