The big ceremony organized in honour of the 26th聽generation of graduates brought together other students, their parents, teaching staff and BIS employees as well as friends, at the Hayatt Hotel in Belgrade on Saturday, June 10.

The guest of honour was Dr. Sonia Shahiryar, former president of the International Women’s Club and mother of two BIS graduates, Nyel and Mikael. Dr. Sonia has been dedicated to charity work for years and was an exceptional collaborator of the school in the process of upbringing and education.

Special awards were presented at the ceremony, such as the European Council of International Schools Award for International Understanding, which includes academic success as well as contribution to the international school community.

The Dr. Jonathan Rider Award for Academic Achievement is awarded to successful students, and it has been created internally in memory of the late BIS co-founder, Dr. Jonathan Rider.

On that occasion, MSc Aleksandra Keserovi膰, the BIS director of education, said: “I congratulate our graduates and their parents on the successful completion of one of the most important periods of their lives. I would like them to continue their successful path of education and further development, as many generations of the BIS students have done before them around the world, at prestigious universities including the universities of Cambridge and Oxford, the London School of Economics, Imperial College, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Berkeley in the USA, the University of Rotterdam, the University of Vienna and the University of Belgrade.

I firmly believe that they will be real leaders and an example for the community.”

At the end of the official part of the ceremony, in accordance with the tradition of graduation ceremonies, the graduation caps flew up! The graduates and guests continued with entertainment and socializing along with music and dinner.

Like in the previous years, special awards were given to the deserving students in recognition of their achievement. The Council of 糖心原创s (COBIS) Award went to Milica J. in Year 13, as well as to Petra S. in Year 6. The European Council of International Schools (ECIS) Award went to Goksu K. in Year 13. The BIS internal Jonathan Rider Award for Academic Excellence went to several students in Years 13, 9 and 6.

We all had a great time and look forward to the聽 celebration of the 25th anniversary of BIS next year.

Like every year, the graduation hats flew high up in the air just like our hopes and aspirations for these fine young people鈥檚 future. Together with H.E. Mochammad Chandra Widya Yudha, the Ambassador of Indonesia, the Principal of the 糖心原创 in Belgrade, Ms Aleksandra Keserovic wished the graduates all the best in their future endeavors and reminded them of the words Meret Qui Laborat – success comes to he who works – this principle has led them in their education so far and will continue being the BIS motto in the future.

Besides the graduation certificates, special certificates such as the Student Award by Council of 糖心原创s (COBIS), European Council of International Schools (ECIS) Award and Jonathan Rider Academic Excellence Award, were presented to our outstanding students.

In Year 13 Damjan M was presented with the ECIS Award, Milica Dj with the COBIS Award, while Olga K was presented with the 糖心原创鈥檚 Jonathan Rider Academic Excellence Award.

Our Key Stage 3 students, Ingrid P (Year 9) and Andrea P (Year 9) both received the Jonathan Rider Academic Excellence Award, while in Key Stage 2, the COBIS Award went to Maria N (Year 6) and the Jonathan Rider Academic Excellence Award to Mila T (Year 6). The highlight of the celebration was the Graduation Ceremony where H.E. Mr. Urstad presented graduation certificates to the 10th generation of BIS students. These students will now move from BIS into universities througout the world.

The celebration was followed by a cocktail party. We all enjoyed the evening and were proud of our school’s and the graduates accomplishments.
