The big ceremony organized in honour of the 26th聽generation of graduates brought together other students, their parents, teaching staff and BIS employees as well as friends, at the Hayatt Hotel in Belgrade on Saturday, June 10.

The guest of honour was Dr. Sonia Shahiryar, former president of the International Women’s Club and mother of two BIS graduates, Nyel and Mikael. Dr. Sonia has been dedicated to charity work for years and was an exceptional collaborator of the school in the process of upbringing and education.

Special awards were presented at the ceremony, such as the European Council of International Schools Award for International Understanding, which includes academic success as well as contribution to the international school community.

The Dr. Jonathan Rider Award for Academic Achievement is awarded to successful students, and it has been created internally in memory of the late BIS co-founder, Dr. Jonathan Rider.

On that occasion, MSc Aleksandra Keserovi膰, the BIS director of education, said: “I congratulate our graduates and their parents on the successful completion of one of the most important periods of their lives. I would like them to continue their successful path of education and further development, as many generations of the BIS students have done before them around the world, at prestigious universities including the universities of Cambridge and Oxford, the London School of Economics, Imperial College, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Berkeley in the USA, the University of Rotterdam, the University of Vienna and the University of Belgrade.

I firmly believe that they will be real leaders and an example for the community.”

At the end of the official part of the ceremony, in accordance with the tradition of graduation ceremonies, the graduation caps flew up! The graduates and guests continued with entertainment and socializing along with music and dinner.

The competition was held at the sports ground of the Belgrade Waterfront. Students from eight primary schools competed in the sprint race and in the Dodgeball game.

Our school was represented by the students from Years 2, 3 and 4. To our great pleasure the boys and girls from Year 3 won third place and bronze medals in the Dodgeball game.

Students who are trained as Wellbeing Ambassadors learn to become better communicators, better listeners, and develop interpersonal skills. They practice being supportive and non-judgemental and are trained to empower others as well as feeling empowered themselves. These transferable skills can stay with Wellbeing Ambassadors for life and help them build positive relationships and protect their own mental health.

Wellbeing Ambassadors learn how to initiate and run campaigns. Being a Wellbeing Ambassador boosts self-esteem and demonstrates empathy, reliability, compassion, and trustworthiness, and, for those who run initiatives, leadership skills. Wellbeing Ambassadors have organised a Bake sale to raise money for creating a room within the school that they named: 鈥淭he Chill Room鈥�. It is equipped with social games that can give the opportunity to students to engage in activities that can make them feel better in the moment. Another wellbeing initiative organised by Wellbeing Ambassadors was the Basketball tournament.

The start of the academic year 2022/23 began with the opening of our new Primary school campus. As with our other two campuses, our new primary location is in Dedinje, a prestigious district of Belgrade. The campus is equipped with state-of-the-art offices and classrooms, surrounded by a yard for children’s games and sports activities as well as beautiful, natural vegetation.
In addition to the many successes of our students during 2022, we would like to highlight the exceptional results in the International Cambridge AS/A level exams. More than 220,000 students worldwide took the exams in June. International standards require that all students sit 3 A Level exams, however, due to the high academic ambitions at BIS, we were delighted that many of our students sat 3, 4, 5 and even 6 A Level exams. Our top graduate this year, Dunja I, achieved excellent results; with three A* and three A grades: Mathematics, Physics and Spanish with A* grades, and Biology, Chemistry and Economics with A grades. All of our June 2022 graduates achieved outstanding results in their A Levels and continued their educational journey at Universities across Europe and the world.

Conventionally students only take three A level subjects in sixth form. A few students take four subjects. This is because of the subject complexity, depth, and the demanding nature of A levels.

Our BIS, Belgrade student, Miss Dunja took six subjects and achieved an amazing result scoring three A* and three A grades.

This is an outstanding achievement. Dunja gained admission to all universities she applied to, and her choice is to study Aeronautical Engineering in Munich. Congratulations, Dunja!
