It takes 20 weeks of mathematics work in order to reach this level, and so the students have worked extremely hard in the trying times of the last academic year to achieve this access.

We hope they, and others, at BIS will continue this trend of excellence in the coming year.

Like in the previous years, special awards were given to the deserving students in recognition of their achievement. The Council of 糖心原创s (COBIS) Award went to Milica J. in Year 13, as well as to Petra S. in Year 6. The European Council of International Schools (ECIS) Award went to Goksu K. in Year 13. The BIS internal Jonathan Rider Award for Academic Excellence went to several students in Years 13, 9 and 6.

Through the qualifications, the fastest 16 boys and 16 girls were selected to compete with 225 boys and girls from 26 cities in Serbia in the Telenor super finale. Our students did not qualify for the rest of the competition, but the BIS is very pleased with their high score.

The presentation took place at the Upper Primary school yard on a beautiful sunny afternoon.

Mr Cincotta introduced our students to the history and culture of Italy, and was pleasantly surprised to find out that our students already knew a lot about this beautiful country.

Prior to the presentation, some of the Primary year groups made drawings of the scenes from Pinocchio, and their art work was displayed in the school yard. After the presentation, the students, staff and our guest speaker helped themselves to the Italian-style cookies made by one of the BIS parents, Mrs Katic.

The project started in April and apart from the Municipality of Savski venac where the BIS is located, students from 16 Belgrade municipalities and 26 cities in Serbia took part in the competition.

The last competition in the 7^th cycle for the Belgrade municipalities was held on 2 June at the Belgrade Waterfront open sports court. The Municipality of Savski venac, together with the Savski venac Sports Union was an excellent host and provided outstanding organization. All Primary schools within Savski venac municipality took part and the BIS was a special guest. In total, 118 students competed and the fastest 16 of them – 8 girls and 8 boys, were sent to the finals.

We are proud to announce that two of our students, Elena V. and Stefan M., qualified for the final sprint which will be held on 8 June at the Athletic Hall on Banjica.

For classes the top 100 were listed with our top ones being Year 6 coming 40th in the world and Year 8 coming 14th in the world.

The competition consisted of 46 different tasks, from basic mathematic calculations to complex word problems. In addition, all areas for Years 7, 8 and 9 of the British curriculum were covered.

Also, several students who achieved outstanding results at the Bebras online competition have qualified to take part in the Oxford online challenge. These students were awarded books signed by Dr Paul Murray. Special congratulations go to Alan K for his outstanding score at the Bebras online competition.
